Seriously, is there anything more obnoxious in poker than the runner runner flush? I'm debating whether I hate that play more or less than dominating someone only for them to pair their weaker kicker on the river. I'd almost have to go with the flush, because it's just so much more agonizing.
Let's say you have a high pocket pair, and the flop hits, and it's three different suits, and not much going on in the way of a straight draw. You have to be thrilled with this result. Then you watch as the turn comes, and a second card of one of the suits drops, but it's okay, because your hand is still good, and it's 3:1 that the third flush card won't drop. Then comes the river, and your worst fears are realized, as that third card comes, and the donkey you're playing against hits his flush that he had no reason chasing after the flop to begin with.
Now, I guess if you're giving the donkey the odds to stick around (i.e. trying to slow play your hand), there's not much to complain about. But man, is it ever infuriating when you raise preflop, bet big on the flop, push all-in on the turn, never giving your opponent the right odds to make such a horrible call, only to watch as you end up getting knocked out by someone who clearly has some pretty poor poker skills.
