Personal :: My trip to the Cubs game
  submitted on October 4, 2004, 8:15 PM

Last week was a very fun opportunity for me. About a month and a half ago, the Chicago Cubs invited the cast of Finishing the Picture to come to the Cubs game, and sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch. Fortunately, myself and the assistant director were also able to attend the game (but not sing!).

So, I first get to Wrigley Field and I head over to the Administrative Office to meet up with everyone. It was a bit crowded when I got there, so there was a bit of a line. So I'm waiting in line, when Ryne Sandberg walks up to the door! He must have saw me gawking at him, because he actually said hi to me! That's right, Ryne Sandberg said hi to me! So the night is already a success in my book. So I get inside, we get our tickets, then start walking through the innards or Wrigley Field. We walk by Ryne Sandberg (!) on our way out. To start things off, we head out onto the field. Just so I can gloat some more, here's a picture of me and the assistant director standing on the on deck circle:

Yeah, that was pretty cool. We headed back inside to a conference room, so the cast could watch some video about "How to sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame". Apparently it's a skill that requires some studying. We did get to see clips of Ozzy Osbourne and Mike Ditka, so it wasn't all bad. Finally we headed to our box suite. That's what happens when you hang out with famous people: you get to do cool stuff, like say hi to Ryne Sandberg.

Our suite had nice seats, plus free freakin' hot dogs! I had like four, I think. Plus, a dessert cart came by, and I had a piece of six-layer carrot cake. Rule. In addition to the box, apparently we also had two tickets down by the field. So we rotated sitting down there. Jenny (the asst. director) and I went down during the sixth inning, to find out the seats were literally four rows back from the field, right by first base. Yes, it was as cool as it sounds.

All in all, it was a really cool experience. The Cubs ended up losing, which kind of sucked, but everything else was so amazingly awesome that it didn't matter too much. Just another fun day at the ballpark.

That's all for now,
