Poker :: BBT Freeroll
  submitted on August 3, 2007, 9:49 AM

Not too much to say, BBT Freeroll was last night. I got knocked out in 21st place. Raised it up on MP with pocket 10s, got a call in the CO, SB called as well. Flop was K-J-10, SB checked, I bet 2,000 into the pot (Pot was a little under 3,000, I believe), CO pushed, SB folded, I made some comment about how unhappy I was going to be if they had A-Q. I end up calling, he flips over A-Q, and IGH. Seems to be the trend lately for me with A-Q. I had played a Tier 3 S&G earlier, and called someone's re-raise/push with AK, they show AQ and flop a queen. I think I had posted earlier about getting knocked out of a tourney the other day with AQ. It's just irritating, because something I've learned lately is how easy it is to overplay AQ, and my stats on Poker Tracker certainly seem to back that up, yet lately I'm constantly getting beat by that very same hand. I don't regret my play in the Freeroll, just would have been nice if I had been called with a decent hand like AK instead of AQ.

Not much else to report, I think I'm going to drop back down to 50NL for the time being and do some reading. My bankroll's okay to play 100NL, but there's something I'm missing, because I'm just not making money there. I can't get paid off on my big hands, and I keep paying other people off on their big hands. I was up $40 after taking two pots off a guy I knew to be bad, only to lose it shortly thereafter on a hand where I flopped a set and was outkicked. It just seems like I'm constantly running into hands like that. Anytime I flop a big hand, almost always my opponents fold when I bet, and if I try and slow play I don't get any real money out of anyone. I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong, so I'm going to try and read up on some NL strategy. I've got a couple Sklansky books sitting around that I haven't read, so I'll try and get started on those. My tournament play has been pretty good, so I'll probably stick with playing some more S&Gs and MTTs and try and stay out of the cash games for right now. I think I'm good enough to succeed at 100NL, probably even 200NL, although I don't have the bankroll for it right now, but I just think there's something wrong with my fundamental strategy. Hopefully I can figure out what it is.
